Cypress Pointe Fire/Rescue was dispatched on a second alarm fire to South Valley Road in Southern Pines for a structure fire.
Initially, Southern Pines Fire/Rescue was dispatched to the residents for a fire alarm. Engine 813 arrived and reported nothing showing from the street side of the residents, after further investigation they determined that they had a working fire that had started on the first floor and was extending to the second floor.
The officer on Engine 813 requested a full first alarm residential assignment which brought Aberdeen Fire/Rescue, Pinehurst Fire/Rescue and another Engine and a Ladder Truck from Southern Pines. Two attack lines were deployed, one to the first floor and one the second floor, crews had to pull the ceiling and open up some walls to get to the fire. Due to extreme heat on the second floor another crew conducted vertical ventilation on the roof to help to remove the heat and smoke and complete the extinguishment of the fire.
Due to the size of the house, over 5,000 square feet, the incident commander requested an second alarm assignment which brought additional personnel from Cypress Pointe Fire/Rescue, Crestline Fire Department and Seven Lakes Fire Department.
Once the fire was brought under control several hours of salvage and overhaul was conducted to insure that the fire did not rekindle.
The home owners were out of state.
