Cypress Pointe Fire/Rescue was dispatched to a single vehicle wreck in the 900 block of Furr Road early Saturday morning, a Jeep Cherokee had struck a large tree head-on.
Upon the arrival of the Fire Chief, Engine 214 and Medic 7 it was determined that a patient was pinned-in the drivers seat. Extrication was initiated on the drivers side of the vehicle, with the drivers side door being removed and the dash and steering wheel were lifted off of the victim, all while Medic 7 attended to the patient.
Per protocol a second Heavy Rescue was dispatched from Southern Pines Fire/Rescue which assisted with extrication.
Unfortunately, the drivers was pronounced dead at the scene after the extrication was completed.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
