On Sunday a large thunderstorm rolled through Moore County leaving a lot of localized damage in it's wake. Damage included power lines down, trees down, trees on houses and vehicles. Several roads and driveways were blocked due to trees and power lines being down.
Due to the number of calls and the nature of the event Cypress Pointe established an Area Command to manage multiple responses. Additional units and personnel were sent from Whispering Pines and West End to assist with the increased call volume. The command post maintained a call log and dispatched additional units as units became available. A Downed Power Line Log was maintained and the list was forwarded to the power companies throughout the event. Fire department staff worked to open roadways by cutting trees out of the roadway and the command post maintained a Tree Down Log for the Department of Transportation.
Cypress Pointe responded to a total of 42 calls from approximately 7:30 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. There were no firefighters or members of the public injured.
