On Tuesday just before 4:00 p.m. Cypress Pointe Fire/Rescue and Moore County EMS were dispatched to a wreck on U.S. Highway 1 By-Pass between U.S. 1 Business and Highway 690. It was reported that the wreck involved a tractor and trailer verses a passenger vehicle and the dispatch center was receiving multiple calls. Due to the expected damage a second Heavy Rescue was dispatched from Southern Pines Fire Department and was later cancelled.
Upon the arrival of the first fire units it was determined that the truck driver was not injured and that the occupant of the car was able to self-extricate and had non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to the hospital by Moore County EMS.
Both vehicles had been traveling north bound on U.S. 1 Highway By-Pass when the car skidded in front of the tractor and trailer causing both vehicles to cross the median into the north bound lanes of U.S. 1 By-Pass. Fortunately, no vehicles traveling south bound were involved but traffic in the south bound lanes was back-up and/or rerouted for approximately 2 hours.
Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted with traffic and investigation, including: Moore County Sheriff's Officer, N.C. Highway Patrol and Vass Police Department.
