Early on Saturday morning a vehicle chase started in Chatham County near Pittsboro. Law enforcement noticed a vehicle stopped in the middle of an intersection with the drive slumped over the wheel. As law enforcement approached the vehicle the drive came to an drove off at a high rate of speed.
Multiple units from Chatham County joined in the case even as the pursuit continued into Lee County. The Highway Patrol and Lee County Sheriff's Office joined the chase and stop sticks were used which flattened 3 of the tires on the suspects car. However, the suspect continued to drive on three flat times and entered into Moore County.
As he entered into Moore County the Moore County Sheriff's Office and additional Highway Patrol Troopers joined the chase. In an effort to stop the pursuit before entering into a more populated area the Highway Patrol utilized the Pit Maneuverer (Pursuit Intervention Technique) to force the driver to lose control and stop the car on U.S. 1 By-Pass near Crains Creek Road.
Cypress Pointe Fire/Rescue and Moore County EMS were dispatched to assist with removing the suspect/victim from the car and treating him for minor injuries.
