On Tuesday night Cypress Pointe Fire/Rescue was dispatched as an automatic aid department with Southern Pines Fire/Rescue to the 3000 block of Youngs Road for a large barn fire. Upon the arrival of the first-in units they reported a large working fire that was quickly moving into the second floor.
The initial engine had to over come a locked gate in order to access the road to the fire. This area of Youngs Road does not have hydrants so additional tankers were used to provide water to fight the fire.
Firefighters deployed three attack lines to start extinguishment the fire from the exterior and then moved inside to work on the fire. The second floor contained nine tons of hay that was extremely difficult to extinguish.
Unfortunately, one horse lost his life due to the smoke and fire.
Besides Southern Pines and Cypress Pointe, Aberdeen Fire Department, Fort Bragg Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Public Safety and Sheriff's Office also responded.
