On Tuesday morning just before 8:00 a.m. Cypress Pointe Fire/Rescue and Moore County EMS were dispatched to a wreck on U.S. 1 By-Pass on the bridge between Moore and Lee Counties. Carthage Fire/Rescue was dispatched as a second rescue due to the severity of the wreck.
A CPFR Captain arrived on-scene and reported a single vehicle roll-over accident with two patients still in the vehicle and all of U.S. 1 North bound blocked. Due to the time of the day U.S 1 had heavy traffic that was backed up in the north bound lane. This is a limited access highway which made emergency vehicles have to drive on the roadside to access the wreck and get around traffic parked traffic.
Cypress Pointe and Carthage personnel worked to remove both patients, first the passenger and then the driver both of which had serious injuries. They were turned over to EMS for transport to the hospital. The Moore county Sheriff's Office assisted with traffic control and the North Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the wreck.
