Just before 6:00 a.m. on November 11, 2020 Cypress Pointe Fire/Rescue and Moore County EMS were dispatched to a wreck on Highway 24/27 near Timberland Lane. Due to a possible pin-in Carthage Fire/Rescue was dispatched as a second rescue.
This wreck involved three vehicles including a tractor and trailer carrying logs, a pickup truck and a car. The initial impact occurred between the tractor and trailer and the pickup truck and unfortunately claimed the life of the pick-up truck driver. The tractor and trailer turned over causing the car to strike the trailer.
Both the car driver and tractor and trailer operator were transported to the hospital. The tractor and trailer also had a fuel leak that the fire department worked to control.
The N.C. Highway Patrol investigated the accident and utilized a reconstructionist to complete the investigation. Highway 24/27 was closed for almost 6 hours while the logs were removed from the highway, the fuel spill was cleaned up and the vehicles were removed from the roadway.
