CPFR was dispatched to a two-vehicle wreck on Highway 690 near Fairley Lane. Upon the arrival of our units, it was determined that there was a pin-in in one vehicle and an entrapment in the other vehicle.
Due to the amount of damage and heavy impact a second Heavy Rescue from Southern Pines was requested, Air Care Transport was requested, and Whispering Pines Fire/Rescue was requested to establish the landing zone for Air Care.
Simultaneous extrications were initiated, and the entrapped patient was freed from the vehicle first and patient care was turned over to Moore County EMS for treatment and transport to the hospital.
The pinned-in patient was freed a short time later after crews rolled the dash to free his legs. The initial plan to transfer this patient to Air Care had to be changed when the patient went into cardiac arrest. The patient was loaded into an EMS unit with a fire department member driving the patient to the hospital.
The N.C. Highway investigated this wreck.
