CPFR and Moore County EMS were dispatched to a wreck on U.S. 1 Business outside of the Town of Cameron just after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Upon the arrival of Engine 221 they reported a single vehicle accident involving a pick-up truck verses a tree. After further investigation it was determined that the driver of the truck was pinned in the truck from the waist down. The call was upgraded to an extrication which brought an additional rescue truck from Carthage Fire Department to the scene and a Medical Helicopter to a nearby landing zone.
The victim was alert and talking but was in some pain due to his position in the vehicle. The driver side door had to be forced open, the steering wheel had to be removed and the dash had to be lifted off of the patient. While the fire department was working to extricate the victim, EMS gained access from the opposite side of the firefighters and were able to complete a partial medical assessment and start an IV on the patient.
Once the patient was extricated, they were transported to the landing zone for the flight to the closest trauma center.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating this accident.
