On Saturday, CPFR hosted a Chainsaw Operations Class taught by Forestry Mutual Insurance Company. The training focused on chainsaw safety, maintenance, and operations, with plenty of hands-on practice. While all of our firefighters are trained to use a variety of saws, chainsaws are used most often for structural ventilation and clearing downed trees from roadways after storms.
This class helped build operator confidence and introduced different cutting techniques for handling downed trees in awkward positions or under pressure. The instructor, who regularly evaluates the U.S. Forestry Service in chainsaw operations, provided valuable real-world insight for our crews.
