Cypress Pointe Fire/Rescue was dispatched to a near head-on collision on Monday morning on NC 15-501 close to Donathan Lane. Due to the severity of the wreck the dispatch center added Carthage Fire Department to this call as a second rescue. Upon the arrival of fire and EMS it was determined that there were two vehicles involved, a passenger vehicle and a large mail delivery truck. Both vehicles only had a driver, the driver of the passenger vehicle had been removed by other drivers in the area. Initially Air Care was requested however, the helicopter was cancelled. The driver of the passenger vehicle was transported to the hospital by Moore County EMS, while the truck driver declined treatment. The truck also had a damaged fuel tank and spilled approximately 50 gallons of diesel fuel; Moore County Public Safety responded and coordinated a clean-up company to ensure the fuel spill was cleaned up. The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating this wreck, and it is reported that the driver of the passenger vehicle had fallen asleep while driving.
