| On Saturday March 7th, 2026, Cypress Pointe Fire/Rescue hosted Moore County Quarterly Fire Training.
Firefighters from Moore and Harnett Counties participated in a live fire training exercise designed to strengthen critical firefighting skills and improve interagency coordination during emergency incidents.
The training began with a pre-burn safety briefing at Cypress Pointe Station 1 in Vass where participants reviewed safety procedures, training objectives, and incident management expectations. After the briefing, crews moved to the training location at 480 Murdock C Road in Cameron to conduct the live fire evolutions.
Live fire training allows firefighters to practice in realistic fire conditions, which is essential for developing the skills needed to safely and effectively respond to structure fires in our communities.
During the training, firefighters practiced several key firefighting operations, including:
Vent, Enter, Search (VES) – A targeted search/rescue technique from entering thru windows used to quickly search rooms for victims and remove them to safety.
Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC) operations – Using thermal cameras to locate heat sources, fire spread, and potential victims in low-visibility environments.
Fire Attack – Advancing hose lines to locate and extinguish the fire.
Fire Dynamics - Understanding flame spread, understanding smoke conditions and flow paths.
Overhaul – Checking for and extinguishing hidden fire after the main fire is knocked down.
Pump & Water Supply Operations – Establishing a reliable water source for firefighting operations.
Accountability – Tracking firefighters on scene to ensure everyone remains safe.
Communications – Practicing clear and effective radio communication between crews and command.
Training like this is vital to ensure firefighters are prepared, coordinated, and ready to respond when emergencies happen.

As the live fire training was starting to get to a burn down stage of the structure several departments were dispatched to a structure fire on Den Road in Southern Pines that went to a 3rd alarm.
The 2nd and 3rd alarm were requested due to the amount of fire and the need for additional personnel and apparatus. Some of the same exact training objectives from the live fire training were put to use in a real-life incident just moments after clearing the training site. |
