Over the last week the construction site for Fire Station 4 on Youngs Road's land clearing was completed and 8 to 10 inches of topsoil was removed from the site. The contractor also had over 200 dump truck loads of clay and gravel hauled onto the site. This is to develop a solid base for the station and site so that the building and lot can withstand the large imposing weight and movements of fire apparatus.
Because fire apparatus is much heavier than a standard car, fire stations have heavier duty asphalt, concrete and foundations to handle constant movements of the larger vehicles.
