At approximately 3:15 a.m. on Saturday morning Cypress Pointe Fire/Rescue, Moore County EMS, Vass Police Department and the N.C. Highway Patrol were dispatched to a single vehicle accident on U.S. 1 By-Pass northbound. A small pick-up truck had struck the guard rail and rolled over and was blocking portions of both northbound lanes. Upon the arrival of Engine 211 and Rescue 219, traffic was backing up and they had to work around several vehicles to get to the wreck site. Once at the scene they reported a single vehicle accident with two occupants. The driver of the vehicle had self extricated however, the passenger was entrapped in the truck but was not pinned-in. Cypress Pointe personnel along with Vass Police established a safe working area by blocking traffic and then Cypress Pointe staff removed the rear window to extricate the remaining victim. Both victims were packaged and transported to First health of the Carolina's Moore Regional Hospital with significant injuries but not life threatening.
Cypress Pointe assisted the Highway Patrol and the wrecker company with removing the vehicle and clean up before the road was opened back up.
