Rescue Training Fire Department vs. Jersey Barrier

Cypress Pointe Fire/Rescue's on-duty crew conducted air bag training with a simulated victim (rescue dummy) under a Jersey Barrier. The air bags were used to lift the Jersey Barrier which weighs several thousand pounds and remove the victim. In many instances fire departments have to lift heavy items at accident scenes using air bags. This may mean that the air bags are used to lift cars, tractor and trailers, loads that have shifted or any item that represents "dead weight" that cannot be easily moved to gain access to injured or trapped victims. It is important that these types of technical skills are practiced regularly so that our staff members stay familiar with this equipment and can function effectively during stressful events.
