Two Fires on Crains Creek Road
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Department Chief Mike Cameron
November 20, 2025

A busy Thursday afternoon brought Cypress Pointe Fire/Rescue personnel to two separate fire incidents occurring back-to-back on Crains Creek Road.
The first call involved a fire at the Moore County landfill station, where a dumpster attached to the compactor was found burning. CPFR crews spent approximately 40 minutes on scene extinguishing the fire and ensuring the area was safe before clearing.
Just after returning to service, CPFR was dispatched to a reported outside fire—also on Crains Creek Road in the 1100 block—which was quickly upgraded to a structure fire (photos attached). The upgraded assignment added Carthage Fire Department and Whispering Pines Fire Department to the response.
Upon arrival, CPFR units found an outside fire that had spread to a 30x20 outbuilding, nearby yard areas, and farm equipment. Engine 211 deployed two attack lines to suppress the building and equipment fire, while Brush 228 addressed an active woods fire. Tanker 226 provided the initial water supply to Engine 211, and Engine 214 laid approximately 500 feet of supply line from the nearest hydrant to establish a sustained water source.
The fire was determined to have originated from a previously conducted yard debris burn that rekindled and spread unnoticed until the outbuilding caught fire.
One CPFR firefighter was transported to the hospital with non-critical injuries, primarily due to dehydration after operating at two consecutive fire scenes in full protective gear.
